Performance, Standards and Weather

  • Why work with us?

We have been recognised for our approach to quality, environmental, and health and safety management, as evidenced by our UKAS accredited, BSI audited ISO9001, 14001 and 18001 certifications.

We also proudly hold CHAS, SafeContractor, Contractor Plus, Achilles, Construction Line, Altius and Safe Mark accreditations, giving you peace of mind that The Gritting Company cares about on-site performance and the highest standards across the board. We are also founder members of RHA & CPA.

We believe we are the UK’s only winter maintenance specialist that can truthfully say we have never run out of salt. With strong supplier relationships, the ability to haul our own salt, and stockyards with 20,000 tonnes of BS 3247 salt in reserve, we will always have spare capacity.

Our in-house weather experts are trained to Met Office gold quality mark standard, enabling them to accurately interpret the most trusted, reliable and current Met Office forecast data supplied in the UK, throughout the day.

We combine our proven monitoring expertise with unrivalled knowledge of localised climates and geographical variances, to ensure our gritting teams hit the road exactly when the time is right.

Because we have the most comprehensive fleet of gritting vehicles, salt spreaders and snow clearance equipment in the country, of course we want to protect them. But this isn’t the main reason for our long-standing investment in GPRS tracking.

The system allows us to document and evidence every single site we visit, providing us with a comprehensive audit trail of all our activity for the last five years. The live tracking information also feeds into our advanced job management system, enabling us to provide an unbroken, nationwide service with utmost client transparency.

We have never believed in a one size fits all approach. That’s why we’re the chosen gritting and snow clearance specialist for private clients, large and small, throughout the whole of the UK.

From local GP surgeries to national retail parks and leading supermarkets, there are no sites we cannot support, and our high quality services are always provided at the most competitive price possible.

  • Performance and Standards

What can you expect from working with a highly-accredited, long-established company? With a wealth of certifications and industry standards under our belt – not to mention 150 years’ business experience – this all translates into more benefits for our UK-wide clients:
        • We are a UKAS accredited, BSI audited ISO 9001, 14001, 18001, SafeContractor, CHAS, Achilles, Construction Line, Altius and Safe Mark approved supplier, demonstrating our commitment to on-site standards, robust business management, and utmost consideration for people and the environment around us
        • We are a proactive supplier, working hard to contact clients well in advance of the winter months, to ensure you are covered and you can relax when the bad weather hits
        • We grit seven days a week, during the hours of darkness, to ensure minimal disruption to your business. Our team is also on hand to offer assistance 24 hours a day, throughout the season, meaning you’ll never be left out in the cold
        • If another gritting company lets you down, we will provide ‘emergency services’ to ensure your site is safe, accessible and operating as normal, as quickly as possible. In fact, some businesses that first approached us for such support have since turned into long-standing clients
        • We continually invest in new equipment, whether that’s IT software to provide customer transparency via our online portal, GPRS tracking for our state-of-the-art fleet, or job scheduling technology that ensures we are where we need to be, when we need to be there
        • Every day we procure the latest data from the Met Office, enabling our gold quality mark weather experts to analyse, monitor and forecast the likelihood of ice, frost and snow across all parts of the UK. When conditions dictate that you need our support, we’ll automatically deploy our gritting teams to protect your site, exactly when the time is right
        • We always arrive with fully-loaded vehicles, rather than storing salt on clients’ sites. This means you don’t have to worry about finding extra space for your own salt supply or any environmental issues associated with such storage
        • We’ve worked hard to source salt suppliers with the same quality ethos as us, and will only work with these trusted UK providers. By investing in premium UK salt, certified to BS3247 standards, we can safeguard the promises we make to customers. We’ve never run out of salt either, even during times of widely-acknowledged national shortages.
        • Our Health and Safety Policy statement can be found here.
        • Our Environmental Policy is here, and our Policy on Quality can be found here.

We believe you will struggle to find a provider able to deliver an equivalent service, of the same quality and standard, and with the same level of guarantees, for a more cost-effective price. Why not contact us for a no obligation quote?

When conditions dictate that you need our support, we’ll deploy our gritting teams to protect your site, exactly when the time is right!
        • Every day, for over a decade, we have procured the latest data from the Met Office, enabling our gold quality mark weather experts to analyse, monitor and forecast the likelihood of ice, frost and snow across all parts of the UK.
        • Our bespoke “Open Road” weather report works on surface temperatures, rather than air temperatures (the same as is used for gritting highways.)
        • Our forecast zones in on the 5.00am to 9.00am period for the following morning, which is the most critical time for the majority of our clients. Our service is carried out through the night when car parks & service yards are quiet.
        • We do not work on specific temperatures as this can often result in gritting being carried out when not required. Instead we look at a combination of the following factors: temperature, precipitation and ambient temperature during the day; to determine if there will be any ice frost or snowfall of significance.
