Mid-season (ice) reflection
28th February 2017
There may be a pause in the wintry weather right now and it’s beginning to feel a little Spring like across the UK - but there’s always the danger of another cold snap! Just as we write this there are severe weather warnings arriving from the Met Office for snow !!
Breaks in the weather give us a chance to review and analyse the gritting season so far. As our season starts on the 21st October, we are now just two thirds of the way through our 6-month season.
This season, we have noticed a flip of the UK winter weather map! In the last couple of months, we have carried out more visits in Southern England than in the North or Scotland (compared to previous averages). On the environmental front we have managed to reduce the vehicle journey distances per route- by 15% on previous years! This reduction has been possible due to careful planning and the optimization of each route. In addition by using newer, more efficient vehicles we have lowered our overall emissions further, reducing our impact on the environment in line with our Company and ISO 14001 accreditations goals.
