The Future is Electric
25th August 2020
The Gritting Company, are taking the organisations core values to the next level by addressing its current impact on our environment. One of our missions is to aid the UK to become a carbon neutral country by 2050 and in turn for us to reach carbon neutral status by 2025.
With over 200 gritting field teams and 9000 customer locations across the country we realise we need to look at how our vehicles and processes can be changed and updated to aid our environmental missions. Over recent weeks the team have been looking at innovative ways to adapt our methods and services to become a greener company and for Winter Maintenance, the future is electric.
Our winter maintenance colleagues have been working with the team at Bucher Municipal to understand their state-of-the-art winter electrical products and how we could incorporate them into our service. Normally salt/grit spreader bodies are powered via a secondary diesel “donkey engine” or the engine of the vehicle that the gritter body is mounted to. These new bodies are fully electric and have the capacity to provide 6-8 hours of continuous service on one single charge!
Over the coming winters we will be trialling electric service products in our fleet throughout the UK to ensure they fully meet our customers’ needs. From city centre office parking, retail parks to industrial yards and hospitals we will ensure that we put our future machines through their paces, thus ensuring we fulfil our national commitment in securing a better environment for all. By aligning our operational service with our future visions through investing in the best on the market electric vehicles and spreaders for our winter division, we are ensuring that we are proactively thinking of our clients, our people, the environment and, as always, providing an excellent service.
