The Gritting Life
2nd February 2017
Activity here at our Yorkshire based Head Office and our UK wide depot’s never stops during the winter season!
Early in the day we receive our first bespoke weather forecast from the Met Office. Our Managers use their Gold Standard training and knowledge to assess the whole of the UK’s forecasting then add details to our bespoke back office system to generate maps, routes and schedules for that evening. Customised computer software then detects customers who require notifications of service and emails are then automatically generated.
Once the forecast is in place we then notify our network of UK wide depots and drivers so they can begin preparing the fleet in readiness for their night ahead. All drivers are highly trained and work hand in hand with our Maintenance Teams to check vehicles and kit to ensure we always deliver a class leading service!
At Midday we reassess any weather updates and finalise the jobs for that night. Details of all sites to be covered are then pushed out to the appropriate depots using our job management system- this tells them exactly which sites to cover along with all the site-specific access requirements and plans. With our environmental ISO accreditation in mind, routes are then optimised noting location and customer requirements.
Once everything is scheduled and routed our gritters work right through the night providing cover to all corners of the country through the worst winter weather, ensuring all sites are safe and ice-free!
A team of Winter Maintenance Managers are available 24/7 throughout our 6 MONTH season so that any time any queries arise they can be resolved promptly.
Our bespoke job management system automatically runs 24/7 in real time capturing locations and times on site of all jobs thus providing Management Information, summaries and feedback. When the New Day breaks, our Head Office Team ensure all jobs are completed and everything is in place ready for another night of gritting.
